The land that is now known as Bolingbrook was primarily unincorporated farmlands throughout the 20th Century. The area benefited from a period of expanded housing development in the 1950s. Bolingbrook was incorporated in 1965 and soon experienced a population boom in the 1970s. Today, the village is the 17th largest incorporated community in Illinois.

ACE Bus serves Bolingbrook with Routes 834, 824, 825, 768, 855, and 755. Commuters who wish to take the Metra can catch a ride on the BNSF Railway stations at Lisle or Naperville. Additionally, O’Hare International Airport is 30 miles away from Bolingbrook’s downtown, and only 22 miles from Midway International.
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 supervises schools in several communities, including Bolingbrook’s Liberty Elementary. However, Community Unit School District 365U serves the majority of public schools in Bolingbrook.
